A Brief Word About Commissions...

A commissioned illustration (often referred to simply as a commission) is, in my opinion, a partnership between the artist and the customer. We can work together, with enthusiasm and patience and respect. As the art collecting customer must relinquish creative control to the commissioned artist whom they sought out, based upon their admiration of the creative individual's previous work, I believe that the artist must show the kind of respect to their customer's patience and patronage that he or she would expect in return. When we work together, generous collectors of comic-related art can enjoy cultivating their collections, and artists can develop and refine their skills, as well as their reputations.

Although fandom of all kinds is deeply rooted in emotional connections to mythical characters and fantastical stories, the commissioning of a piece of art is unmistakably a business transaction, and must be treated accordingly. I believe that a firmly structured set of guidelines can help both the artist and the customer navigate their ways through the process.

Basic Commission Guidelines:   The Commission Process
(What The Customer Can Expect):

• Contact Tim Fischer (hereafter referred to as "the artist") prior to purchasing a commission. The content of each commissioned piece of artwork, pricing and a timeframe within which to complete the commission will be agreed upon by the artist and the customer before the artist begins drawing the commission.

• Correspondence between the artist and the customer will take place via email.

• Full rates will be paid up-front for each commissioned illustration. No deposits. No down payments.

• One commission per customer at a time. If you are interested in commissioning a series of illustrations, each piece of artwork will be paid for, then created by the artist, one at a time.

• If the customer is unsatisfied with the finished product of the commissioned illustration and refuses to take ownership of the artwork and/or demands a refund, a Kill Fee equaling 50% of the agreed upon rate will be paid to the artist, and the artist will keep the finished illustration.

• No sequential artwork.

• ADULTS ONLY commissions are accepted as the $150 Digital Full-Color Illustration option ONLY. A statement of age will be required for any ADULTS ONLY subject matter.

• The artist reserves the right to terminate the commission agreement for a full refund to the customer. Refunds will be paid within 2 to 4 weeks of the agreement's termination.

• After the content of the commission is agreed upon by the artist and the customer, and the artist has received his payment in full, the artist will provide at least two (2) thumbnail sketches to the customer. These thumbnail sketches will represent differing, rough approximations of the illustration's composition, proportions and the poses of the characters depicted.

• The customer will choose one of these sketches to be developed into a preliminary drawing. At this stage in the process, the customer can suggest one (1) round of changes to be made to the sketch, to be reflected in the preliminary drawing. If the customer is unsatisfied with the initial thumbnail sketches provided by the artist, no more than two (2) additional thumbnail sketches can be requested by the customer. At this stage in the process, the customer will choose one of these additional sketches to be developed into a preliminary drawing.

• Next, the artist will submit a tightly-rendered preliminary drawing to the customer. At this stage in the process, the customer can suggest one (1) final round of changes to be made to the drawing, to be reflected in the final illustration. If the customer commissioned either the $120 Full-Color Marker Illustration option or the $150 Digital Full-Color Illustration option, the customer can suggest ideas for the illustration's color palette. However, the artist reserves the right to make his own informed decisions about color based on his experience and knowledge of color theory.

• If the customer commissioned the $75 Illustration option, the illustration will be completed at this stage in the process.

• A digital image of the finished illustration will be presented to the customer.

• Finally, the commissioned illustration will be carefully and securely packaged and shipped to customers within the United States for FREE. International shipping prices will be factored into the commission rate.

No exceptions will be made to these guidelines and procedures. These rules and guidelines are in place to protect both the artist and the customer. Hopefully, with structured boundaries in place, the commission process can unfold free of conflicts, but full of fun, excitement and creativity!

I'm looking forward to your commission!
